This annual fundraising event is hosted by the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham, in support of the Varley Art Gallery of Markham’s exhibitions, collection and education programs.
This event is held at the Toronto Marriott Markham and is black tie optional. Members of the Varley Art Gallery get a 10% discount (limit two per Varley member).

The Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham is pleased to announce its fourth annual Gala fundraiser is taking place on Friday, October 16, 2020. Our goal this year is raise significant funds to support the Varley Art Gallery of Markham’s exhibitions, public and educational programs.
In 2019, the Varley Art Gallery received a Best Exhibition of the Year award (in the Exhibition under $10,000.00 category) at the Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG) gala for Moving through darkness into the clearing. The exhibition featured historical works from the gallery’s permanent collection shown alongside contemporary photographic works by Greg Staats, Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk), both complemented and challenged the work by members of the Group of Seven that were on display. The Gallery was also shortlisted for Exhibition of the Year: Budget under $20,000—Thematic for Refuge, an exhibition which dwelled upon issues of boundaries, permanence, interconnectivity and exchange.
The OAAG Awards recognize excellence within Ontario’s public galleries, and the Varley Art Gallery is among the leaders.

The Gala raises funds each year to support programs for children and adults who wish to develop and enhance their skills, foster life-long interests and appreciate the arts. All are important elements to developing a well-rounded person.
We need your help to keep the love of painting, the arts and our heritage alive. Donate an item or gift certificate to our gala silent auction! This is a great opportunity to contribute to the community’s artistic development and growth. You will receive a charitable donation receipt for the fair market value of your donation, issued in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency regulations. Gift cards/certificates that are donated and issued by the business are not eligible to receive a donation receipt.
