Varley Art Gallery 25th Anniversary Art Aquisition Campaign

In honour of the 25th anniversary of the Varley Art Gallery, the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham is raising funds to purchase works of art to enhance the Varley Art Gallery’s collection. The Varley Art Gallery maintains a collection of over 1,500 artworks. It has recently developed new acquisition goals focused on purchasing works by living artists that are underrepresented in its current holdings, including women and BIPOC artists. These new works will feature in an exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary, demonstrating the Gallery’s new collecting direction.

The exhibition aims to show Markham’s diverse communities that they are reflected not only in the works on display but also in the works collected by the Varley Art Gallery. Our ultimate goal for this project is to provide the additional funding required to enable the Gallery to reach a much broader audience, supporting women and BIPOC artists, curators and writers working within the community, giving agency and a voice to their practices, and facilitating important discussions on issues facing our community today.

By making a contribution, you are helping us tell a more inclusive story of art in Canada. Make a donation. Leave your mark.
